Where Katagami writes

Every land cell is a letter from the language spoken there, set in Katagami. Where a script is not covered yet, the cell shows a + instead, so the map is also the font's coverage. Heavier letters mean more people per square kilometre. Katagami draws Latin, Greek and Cyrillic; 19 more scripts are merged in from Noto Sans, and Chinese, Japanese and Korean come from the Katagami CJK companions. Chinese, Japanese and Korean count as covered only when the font has the whole national character standard.

Each cell is assigned to its country or territory, and a cell where several languages are spoken picks one by an ordered dither in proportion to their shares, so a region reads as its mix. The letter in a cell is the language's own, chosen at random from the letters Katagami has, and the same cell always draws the same letter.
